Our Beautiful Garden

Every other day, I have been walking down to the garden. Watering all the green beauty flourishing from the earth in our little square foot box. It’s been an amazing journey to see how rapidly your harvest grows right in front of you. I feel a sense of accomplishment and happiness.

We are Pregnant!

Yesterday was a wonderful day. Not only was it our 2nd year anniversary but we found out ” officially” we are pregnant. I received my little white slip of paper that said, I was 4 weeks/2 days pregnant. I’m due January 25th. We are absolutely ecstatic!! Matt bought me star gazer lilies, took me out last night to eat and we wen’t to the movies. It was the most wonderful day. I hope Adia adjusts well to her new baby brother or sister. We are hoping it’s a boy!

A little surprise.

So, for the last few weeks I’ve felt dizzy and not quite myself. I applied for insurance being I didn’t have any at the given time. Being suspicious my family suggested that I take a pregnancy test so, I took two. Just to be sure. Both tests came back positive, coincidence? I think not. Anyhoo.. I plan to go to the doctor this week to confirm this. Funny thing is Matt and I we’re not trying. Must be a God thing if I am. I will still push through culinary school until I’m ready to pop if this is confirmed to be true. I’m trying not to get too excited…but I feel confident I am.

The line is very faint but it’s there…

My first attempt at homemade sushi.

This has been the most complex dinner I’ve made thus far. Between measuring the right amount of rice to line the seaweed with to wrapping as efficiently as possible. I made a homemade peanut sauce to pair with the sushi as well. The two types of sushi I prepared we’re california roll and shrimp tempura roll. The flavor was great but the I feel the seaweed wrap wasn’t tight enough. I need a bamboo mat 😦 I feel overall it deserved a rating of 8.

Because girls just wanna have fun!

Every woman no matter who she is needs to have a pamper atleast once a month. So I gathered some special ladies at my house, Monday for lots of it. We had free makeovers, given free tips on health/beauty products and snacked until we just couldn’t anymore. Personally, I know how it can feel to wake up every morning with your child tugging at your arm before the rooster crows to provide all their personal needs ALL DAY LONG. Though being a mother brings you much joy, it can tend to make you feel as though you’ve lost a bit of yourself. Because, as most of us know when you signed on to be a mother you become completely selfless. Your job never ends. So, this week whether your a mother, sister, friend, or daughter ect…Take some time out even if it’s only for 3o minutes to do what you love. You will be happier and so will everyone else. Because when momma aint happy, nobody happy! 😉

A midnight snack.

This was completely spontaneous which made for some fun cooking. I love to improv cook because it inspires you to be creative with the products available. Matthew and I tend to be night owls and I like to watch cooking shows on the create channel late at night if I watch anything. Well, I started feeling inspired and hungry at the same time. So, I opened the fridge to see what I could come up with for the both of us. I spotted chorizo, minced olives, purple onion, chopped spinach, flour tortillas, sour cream, cilantro, cheddar cheese and guacamole. I decided to make us a festive, mexican appetizer.

Step 1. Let chorizo cook thoroughly, add minced olives, chopped spinach, 1 Tsp of onion flakes, 1 tsp of cumin powder, 1 tsp of chili powder and wait to add cilantro until very last minute.

Meanwhile saute’ onion until carmelized. Then add to chorizo mixture.

Cook tortilla shells until perfectly brown.

Spread guacamole on tortilla shell, the chorizo mixture, a dallop of sour cream and a pinch of cheddar cheese. Voila! You have a delicious mexican appetizer.

Book Review: ” A Cook’s Tour.” By Anthony Bourdain

I have been reading ” A Cook’s Tour” By Anthony Bourdain. The book is vivid in painting the reader a picture of the sounds, smells, flavor, taste, styles and traditions of the countries he visited during his tour around the world. The reader almost feels as if they are on the same journey with the author. Experiencing every emotion from delighted, sad, scared, angry, curious and overall inspired. There is a raw humor in this book that is undoubtedly keen and delightful.
If by some random chance I was to meet Anthony Bourdain..I might just pee my pants. I like the unpolished aspect of it all. Next time your looking for an adventure, try this.
